Privacy policy

How wrecsam.com handles information about visitors, the cookies the site uses and the choices you have. Last updated 17 October 2026.

Who we are

Wrecsam.com is a visitor guide to Wrexham and part of the Croeso network of Welsh town and visitor guides. The site is operated by Welcome Group Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 10352124), whose registered office is at 20 Birkdale Avenue, Colwyn Bay LL29 6DB.

Welcome Group Ltd is the data controller for personal information collected through this site. The site is built, hosted and maintained for us by Livetech Ltd, 2 Trinity Square, Llandudno LL30 2PY, which acts as our data processor.

If you have any questions about this policy or how your information is used, email [email protected] or write to us at the registered office above.

The short version

You can use wrecsam.com without creating an account or giving us your name or contact details. We use cookies for site analytics and for advertising that helps pay for the guide, and we only use them for those purposes if you agree. When you search for accommodation, your search goes to Booking.com, not to us.

Information we collect

Technical information

Like most websites, our hosting and security services automatically record basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request and the date and time. We use this to keep the site running, secure and protected from abuse.

Analytics

With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site, for example which pages are popular and how visitors find us. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as the pages you view, how long you stay, your approximate location (country or town level) and the type of device you use. We use this information in aggregate and do not use it to identify you.

Advertising

The guide is free to use and is partly funded by advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, measure how they perform and, if you agree, show ads based on your interests. See the advertising section below for more detail.

Site search

If you use the search box, the words you type are used to show you matching pages. We do not link searches to individual visitors.

If you contact us

If you email us, for example about advertising on the site or to correct a listing, we will use your name, email address and message to reply and to deal with your enquiry.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. Wrecsam.com uses the following types:

  • Consent cookies. When you first visit, a consent message from Google asks whether you agree to cookies being used for analytics and advertising. Your choice is stored in a cookie (such as FCCDCF) so we do not ask you on every page.
  • Analytics cookies. Google Analytics sets cookies such as _ga, _ga_* and _gid to tell visits apart and understand how the site is used. These are only used with your consent.
  • Advertising cookies. Google AdSense and its partners set cookies such as __eoi and others to deliver and measure ads, limit how often you see the same ad and, with your consent, personalise ads.
  • Security and performance cookies. Our content delivery and security service may set a cookie to help tell genuine visitors apart from automated traffic. These are needed for the site to work and do not require consent.

Changing your choices

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the Privacy and cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, although some parts of the site may not work as intended if you do.

Advertising on this site

Ads on wrecsam.com are provided by Google AdSense. In the UK, Google only uses cookies for personalised advertising if you have agreed to it. If you decline, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which are based on things like the page you are reading and your general location rather than your browsing history.

You can find out more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and manage the ads Google shows you at myadcenter.google.com.

Accommodation search and Booking.com

The “Find a place to stay” search box on our pages is provided through the Booking.com affiliate programme. When you press search, your chosen destination, dates and number of guests and rooms are sent to Booking.com and you continue on their website. We do not see or store any booking you make, or any personal or payment details you give to Booking.com. If you book, we may receive a commission, which does not change the price you pay.

Booking.com handles your information under its own privacy statement, available on its website.

Content from other websites

Some content on our pages is loaded from other services, which means your browser connects to them and they can see your IP address and basic browser information:

  • photographs from Wikimedia Commons, credited on the page;
  • fonts from Google Fonts and icons from a public content delivery network;
  • advertising and consent tools from Google.

Event listings are provided by our sister site North Wales Events. Links to other websites, including accommodation, attractions and businesses we feature, are provided for your information. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other websites, so please read their policies.

Our legal basis for using your information

  • Consent for analytics cookies and for advertising cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interests for running, securing and improving the site, for showing non-personalised advertising that funds the guide, and for replying to people who contact us.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the service providers that help us run the site, including our web developer and host (Livetech Ltd), Google (analytics, advertising, consent and fonts), our content delivery and security provider, and Booking.com when you use the accommodation search.

Some of these providers, including Google and Booking.com, may process information outside the UK. Where they do, they are required to protect it with appropriate safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as adequacy regulations or approved contract terms.

How long we keep information

Server and security logs are kept for a limited period and then deleted automatically. Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our account and then deleted automatically. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and for our business records.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent at any time. To make a request, email [email protected]. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add new features or services to the site. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last changed.
